How to convert a GIF to a sprite sheet
- Drop your GIF on the box above, or press Choose file. Each frame is put together the way a browser plays it, so GIFs that only store the changed part of each frame come out whole.
- Check the preview. The speed starts at the GIF's own frame rate; change it under Animation if you want it faster or slower.
- Under Sprite sheet, set Columns (0 makes the sheet as square as it can) and Padding if your engine bleeds neighbouring frames when it scales.
- For pixel art, set Scaling to Sharp pixels and pick a Size of 200% or more to get crisp, bigger frames.
- Press Download sprite sheet (PNG). Open Import settings for the exact numbers to type into Unity, Godot, GameMaker or Phaser.
Good to know
- Limits. Up to 240 frames, and frames larger than 1024 px on a side are scaled down to fit.
- Transparency. A GIF pixel is either fully clear or fully solid, so the sheet keeps those hard edges. For a GIF on a black background (fire, sparks, explosions), set Background to Black and the glow becomes real transparency.
- Frame timing. A sprite sheet has one frame rate. GIFs with uneven delays are evened out to their most common delay.

How do I use the sprite sheet in Unity?
Import the PNG, set Sprite Mode to Multiple, open the Sprite Editor and use Slice with Grid By Cell Size. The tool shows the exact cell size (and padding, if you added any) under Import settings.
Why do the edges of my sprite look jagged?
GIF only stores fully clear or fully solid pixels, so soft edges were already cut when the GIF was made. For effects on black, the Black background option turns brightness into smooth transparency instead.
Can I get the frames as separate PNG files?
Yes. Download frames gives you a ZIP of numbered PNGs, one per frame, in playback order.
