Roblox flipbook maker

Make a Roblox flipbook from a GIF, a video, a sprite sheet or your frames: a square 2x2, 4x4 or 8x8 texture for a ParticleEmitter, with the FlipbookLayout and Lifetime to set. Free, no upload.

Updated

Roblox plays a flipbook on a ParticleEmitter when the texture is a square grid of frames it can read: 2x2, 4x4 or 8x8. Drop any animation below and it comes out as exactly that, with the settings to type into the emitter. Everything runs in your browser: your file is never uploaded, there is no sign-up and no watermark.

How to make a Roblox flipbook

  1. Drop a GIF, an MP4 or WebM clip, a sprite sheet, or all your frame images at once on the box above.
  2. Set the Speed. The whole flipbook plays once over the particle's Lifetime, so the speed decides how long the effect lasts.
  3. Under Roblox flipbook, leave Grid on Auto (the smallest grid that holds your frames) or pick one, and choose the Texture size: 1024 for big effects, 512 or 256 for small ones.
  4. For an effect filmed or drawn on black, set Background to Black so the glow becomes transparency.
  5. Press Download Roblox flipbook (PNG), then upload it in Studio's Asset Manager and set the emitter as shown under the preview.

What it does to your frames

  • Fits every cell. Each frame is scaled to fill its cell, keeping its shape, so the effect uses the whole texture. Pixel art scales in whole steps and stays sharp.
  • Uses every cell. A clip with fewer frames than cells holds frames to fill the grid; a longer one keeps frames picked evenly, so the timing stays right.
  • Leaves a margin. Every frame sits inside a transparent border, so neighbouring frames never bleed in when Roblox shrinks the texture with distance.
  • No dark fringe. The clear pixels around each frame take the colour of the nearest visible pixel, so soft edges stay clean instead of picking up a black outline.

Set it up in Roblox

Put a ParticleEmitter in an Attachment, set Texture to your image id, FlipbookLayout to the grid, FlipbookMode to OneShot and Lifetime to the seconds the tool shows (both numbers), then emit one particle per cycle from a script; the script is under the preview. The full walk-through, with the four modes and custom grids, is on how to make flipbook particles in Roblox Studio, and every property is on the Roblox setup page.

Questions

What grid should a Roblox flipbook use?

The one that holds your frames: 2x2 for up to 4 frames, 4x4 for up to 16, 8x8 for up to 64. More frames are smoother, but each one gets fewer pixels: at 1024 px an 8x8 frame is 128 px and a 4x4 frame 256 px.

What Lifetime do I set?

The length of the animation, which the tool shows under the preview. With FlipbookMode OneShot Roblox spreads all the frames over the Lifetime, so the effect plays at the speed you chose.

Why is there a black square around my effect?

The frames have a black background instead of transparency. Set Background to Black before downloading (glows and fire stay), or use LightEmission 1 on the emitter so black adds no light.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The frames are read and the flipbook is built in your browser.
