Water Bucket Splash

A bucket of water thrown across the floor: a glossy sheet arcs in from the left, slaps down across a wide band with forward splashes and spreads into a sliding sheet that thins and dries. Plays once per loop.

Water Bucket Splash is an HD effect that loops seamlessly every 2.2 seconds, drawn on a 512 by 512 canvas. It is built from 12 particle emitters.

HOW IT'S MADE

Water Bucket Splash stacks 12 particle emitters, each with its own job. Techniques worth a look: sub-emitters set off by other particles, collisions, particles stretched along their motion, keyframed parameters and post filters (bloom and vignette). 2 scene layers (ground and props) show in the studio for context and stay out of every export.

It loops seamlessly every 2.2 s, and one layer fires in bursts, so it pulses instead of flowing evenly. To change its colour, select "Water Body" in the studio and edit Colour A and Colour B. Size on the same layer sets how big its particles are. The colour swatches by the downloads recolour every layer at once.

Layers, in draw order

  1. Floor SheetparticlesSplats set off by "Thrown Water Rim". They bounce when they hit something, grow as they age and slow down with drag. Colour: blue.
  2. Floor SheenparticlesSoft glows set off by "Thrown Water Rim". They bounce when they hit something, grow as they age and slow down with drag. Colour: pale blue.
  3. Water BodyparticlesA stream of streaks along a line, its rate keyframed over the loop. They fall under gravity and vanish when they hit something. Colour: blue.
  4. Thrown Water Sourceparticles / additiveA stream of pixels along a line, its rate keyframed over the loop. They spawn "Thrown Water Rim" as they appear, spawn "Thrown Water Body" as they appear and spawn "Thrown Water Highlight" as they appear. Colours range between orange and gold.

USING IT IN YOUR GAME

Phaser, PixiJS
The PNG sheet is a plain grid of frames that both can slice. A TexturePacker JSON atlas comes with a plan, from the studio.
Unity
Import the PNG sheet as a Sprite with Mode set to Multiple and slice it, or open the effect in the studio for a ready-made grid.
Godot 4, GameMaker, Aseprite
Open it in the studio and pick your engine in Export: with a plan, it writes the files that engine imports.
Web and chat
The GIF plays anywhere; the APNG keeps soft edges on any background.

Step by step: Unity, Godot 4, Roblox, GameMaker, Phaser and PixiJS, Aseprite, Web games (live runtime).
